About Dr. Marsh

I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my training, experience and the services I can offer.  I earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where I had extensive training in psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and couples therapy.  My training also included work with a wide variety of outpatient clients in a community mental health clinic and work with victims of violence at the Center for Trauma Recovery in St. Louis.  I interned at the St. Louis Psychology Internship Consortium, working in acute care inpatient settings with both, adults and children. Prior to becoming a psychologist I worked for fifteen years in the social service field with children and their families and also for a period with an adult forensic population.

My professional experiences in social service have broadened my understanding and appreciation of the wide variety of difficulties and problems people encounter and this adds to my ability to assist you in therapy today. Also, because of my training in different approaches to therapy, I can help you address your problems with an array of methods and techniques depending on your individual needs.  My approach to therapy is warm, personal, active, and goal-oriented.  I consider your individual or couple relationship problems with a rich perspective and insight and I will help you recognize emotional logjams, repetitive or problematic patterns of thinking and behavior, or cycles in your interaction with others.  I help you consider how current problems might relate to difficulties or experiences in your past and I assist you in overcoming them as quickly as possible.

Furthermore, I have found that couples therapy can benefit when two therapists work conjointly during the session.  I am therefore offering, as an option, couple's therapy with a therapist-team, with two therapists helping you during the session.

In addition, I have extensive training and experience in psychological testing and evaluations and I am also available to complete learning disability assessment (cognitive assessments) for those 16 years of age or older.

If you have any further questions about what you have read so far, I am readily available by phone or email or to discuss scheduling an appointment.
